Trust us, we KNOW it feels good to hold dollar bills in your hands…
But when was the last time you washed your hands after handling money?
According to the Humboldt Journal, Canada ranks #1 for the dirtiest money in the world.
In Canada (with our plastic monopoly money), bacteria can live on these surfaces for days — or even weeks — and we touch our faces, our friends, or other surfaces that we use daily.
In the US, studies show that a high percentage of bills contain propionibacterium acnes, the bacteria responsible for acne breakouts. The researchers analyzed a set of one dollar bills obtained from a Manhattan bank and found that both sets were teeming with bacteria.
Who would imagine that bills in clean cities can carry this much bacteria?
Not only does it carry more bacteria, it’s more harmful, too.

This is why so many politicians are calling for the reduction (or abolition) of paper money.
The bacteria that causes acne or sickness usually lives on money, and there’s a lot you can do about it.
Like we mentioned, Canadian money is plastic. That means you can “WHOOSH!” it if you have the time!
That would reduce the bacteria on your money by 99% and you’d feel more confident handing it over to the 60-something-year-old cashier at Walmart when you go to get groceries.
However, most people aren’t willing to take the time to wipe down every bill you handle.
That’s unrealistic.
If that’s too much work, we’d highly encourage you to pay with Apple Pay or Android Pay with your phone.
Because there’s a WHOOSH! for that!
